What To Bring
Necessary Things to Bring
Summer weather in Big Sky can vary greatly. It is usually warm in the sun and cool in the shade, but it can snow at anytime in Montana so please come prepared. If in doubt, bring extra cold weather clothing, especially in June.
What others are saying
“Absolutely gorgeous, hiked up to a lake with a quick swim, it was cold! It was the spirit of the camp that was most exciting.”

Please notice that we recommend wool and synthetic garments over cotton because when cotton gets wet it can chill you and take a long time to dry. During certain days of our adventure, cotton t-shirts and shorts will be fine but you should have at least one set of the items listed below. For the remainder of the journey, bring any other comfortable clothing that you enjoy wearing. Big Sky is a very casual place. There is a Laundromat at the ranch if needed but we will not have much down time to do laundry so bring plenty.
Clothing List
White Collared Shirt – Pullover or button down for our ceremony
Long sleeved “fishing-type” shirt – A light weight and quick wicking type of shirt
T-Shirt – A 100% synthetic shirt works best
Jeans/Khakis’-long pants will be needed in June
Shorts/Swimsuit – Lightweight and quick drying
Thermal Jacket – Fleece jacket
Rain and Wind Jacket – Lightweight and waterproof jacket with hood; Gore-Tex or other waterproof/breathable fabric works best
Socks – Wool or synthetic socks that properly fit your shoes
Trail Shoes – Lightweight hiking shoes work best by offering more comfort, support, and traction than normal athletic shoes. Please make sure they fit properly. A little too big is always better than a little too small.
Beneficial Optional Clothing
River Sandals – These should have straps that keep them on your foot no matter what
Padded Bike Shorts – This helps makes the horseback trail ride a little more comfortable and can be worn under long pants
Gloves – Especially nice to have in June
Waterproof Hiking Boots – Hopefully these won’t be needed but if we have a rainy day they are good to have
Waterproof Hiking Pants - Hopefully these won’t be needed but if we have a rainy day they are good to have
Other Stuff…
Sunglasses – This is required for fly-fishing and it is beneficial if they block ultraviolet and infrared rays
Hat - This is required for fly-fishing and is good to have for sun and rain protection
Lip Balm – Should be at least SPF 15
Sunscreen – Should be at least SPF 15
Water Bottle – 1-quart sized bottle works great
Camera – Big Sky is a great place for photos. It should be small enough to carry easily.
